The story begins with Heaven as the youngest and most inquisitive member of the Slotes family. In the 1st testament, the reader will follow Heaven, her family, and friends throughout the ages and stages of their experiences. The setting is late 1960's Detroit, Michigan, just before Heaven's birth and throughout her middle and high school years. Initially, quite religious in its undertones, Heaven's Mind transforms into tones of moderate sexual content (sometimes explicit). Relational and family dysfunction, common to many households are amplified, personified, and then demonized. Incestuous, molestation and consensual sex scenes are expressed straightforwardly, as well as, the revelation of many startling family secrets which are openly discussed. The reader will most definitely catch a glimpse of themselves or those they know in the characters and situations of this book. Nearly too graphic to write about, the book sheds light on many social, religious, cultural, and sexual enigmas plaguing many families in the world today. As the story concludes, the circumstances leading up to the final setting are left up to the reader to imagine what has happened, to whom it has happened, and what will be revealed in the 2nd testament.
