'Aesthetics' For The Students Of Architecture

Architects are the professionals who 'produce' builtforms for accommodating the living and working needs of men. Here we have used the term 'produce' quite intentionally. While some of the professionals like Artists, Sculptors etc. create the product for direct use, consumption or occupation by the buyers, Architects create only the design for the product. Rest of the work like, detail drawing, estimate of materials, construction system and finally, construction all are done by other professionals. However, in the entire process the Architects works as the coordinator. In addition, in the contemporary age the Architects are held responsible for the quality and safety of the product. The above realities indicate that the Architect needs two type of knowledge: (01) Knowledge of designing builtforms and (02) Knowledge of coordinating the expertise of all related professionals like draftsmen, Engineers, Quantity surveyors, Experts in construction and materials, Experts of land and legal matters and the contractors. In managing the above 'education' for the Architects what the teaching academy provided was the following: (01) Giving a clear knowledge and idea of Aesthetics at the very beginning. (02) Teaching how to design simple builtforms (as design exercise) along with some environmental aspects of design (like, Climate, Light, Sound etc.) (03) Teaching how to design complex builtforms (as design exercise) along with some technical aspects of design (like, Structure, Material, Finishes etc.) (04) Teaching how to design more complex builtforms (as design exercise) along with the necessary support services. (05) Teaching how to handle the designing of a builtform project as done by the professionals.
