Divine Providence Lives Of Ordinary People

During your school years, you studied the assigned material, watched films, attended labs, and listened to the instructors. Then graduation day came. There you were, wearing academic regalia, a robe in your school color with a funny hat and tassel, and you were sitting uncomfortably in a folding chair. The commencement speaker droned on, saying how you were the next and best generation, and telling about the places you would go, the things you would do, and how life's opportunities were out there for the taking! Then the commencement exercise ended and you stepped out into life. Did you ever think you'd wind up living the way you are? Most people would probably say no. If you're like most people, you were probably out sick the day they taught Clairvoyance 101. The subject was taught by a fellow with long hair and a little goatee who acted enigmatic. In life, people, even some Christians, use the Worldly Guide to Life for Dummies, and push open the forbidden door, not knowing what will come bursting out at them. The end result of man's will is instability. In the stories of this book, I've used a pinball machine as an allegory, and its parts as metaphors, to help you understand Divine Providence. Pinball machines, much like our lives, include a story line and there are certain actions that must be performed in a specific fashion to complete the story successfully. Imagine several circular openings in the playing field of a pinball machine. In Christian vernacular, these specific geometric shapes represent God's Will for you. They are where you fit, and where His protective love covers you. No matter how difficult your present situation may be, God's sovereignty allowed it into your life. Until God opens a door for you to leave, you're to stay put. He knows when it is time to press the popper and launch you out. A life built on God's Will remains firm, even during trouble.
