The Pesach Eve murder of Reb Elijah Lachmann shakes his community of believers on Kibbutz Kerem El to the core. Nestled in the isolated mountains of Israel's Carmel Range, the kibbutz is the idyllic childhood home of newly divorced psychologist Rachel Shine. She returns to comfort the Rebbe's daughter, and when she is asked to treat the traumatized kibbutzniks, she reluctantly agrees despite the panic attacks that grip her as a result of a terrorist bombing. But her clients' secrets draw her into the old angers and violent passions. As she explores what may have driven the Rebbe's flock to what soon become multiple murders, she encounters the enigmatic Detective Absalom Brill who makes her question whether she will be able to love again.
