In 1815, the Massachusetts Peace Society was formed, and became a national movement. The organization was the merging of numerous regional groups, including the New York Peace Society. In 1828, led by William Ladd and George Beckwith, it would evolve to become the American Peace Society. The society was centered on the concept of creating a permanent international organization dedicated to peace, spreading its ideas through the journal, The Advocate of Peace. The organization, and its journal still exists today, renamed World Affairs in 1932 and published by the Policy Studies Organization in Washington. This edition is dedicated to James Denton, editor emeritus of World Affairs.
