Tommy Devane was an All-Everything football player, a decorated paratrooper in Vietnam, the lover of many beautiful women, and, for the past ten years, a Ferrari-driving celebrity sports agent in Atlanta, with over seventy NFL players as clients. At sixty, however, when he starts to feel professionally passe as well as emotionally exhausted, he retires to his hometown of Savannnah for what he hopes will be an upliftinig second life with his new wife, Whit, who is half his age and in looks and in the bedroom is indeed a trophy. In Savannah, however, what Tommy had hoped to have is not what he gets. His lust, which began as heaven, soon leads to the hell of a brutal double murder in which, as his investigation even more than that of the police reveals, all of the remaining major characters, including his embittered ex-wife and their dope-head son, are to some extent culpable.
