Plant Anatomy

The branch of biology that studies the internal structure of plants is referred to as plant anatomy. This field includes microscopy of plants and the sectioning of its tissues. The study of plant anatomy uses systems approach which is based on the plant's activities. These activities are flowering, seed development, pollination and nutrient transport. The discipline is divided further into structural categories. Flower anatomy studies gynoecium, calyx, corolla and androecium. Leaf anatomy focuses on the study of epidermis, palisade cells and stomata. Stem anatomy studies stem structure, vascular tissues, shoot apex and buds. Root anatomy includes the study of root structure, its tip and endodermis. Fruit and seed anatomy refers to the study of structure of the ovule, seed, accessory fruit and pericarp.
