The Little Boy From Soho

Some people tend to forget; others choose to block out, deny, or simply do not care about what happened years ago, in this city called Manhattan. The Seventies were one of the darkest times for the people who traversed the streets, often choosing not to venture outside the safety of their homes. Heroin addicts and their dealers infiltrated New York City, targeting public parks and depressed neighborhoods. Many city-owned tenements were abandoned and vacant, becoming the perfect locations for drug dealers and their heroin and cocaine operations. Office buildings had too few tenants. Even downtown Wall Street and thriving Midtown suffered from the same demographic downturn. Life was trivialized and violent deaths went unreported. People slept in doorways and on sidewalks and no one cared. Residents shut out any stimulus of the city; it was too dangerous to get involved.
