Author C. Anthony Sherman tells the story of two young boys from different worlds who form an unbreakable bond in his new book, The Promise at Koonville. Robert and Buddy meet in the back woods of Koonville in a time when the racial climate separated whites and blacks, yet their brief encounter forms the basis of a lifelong friendship based on a childhood promise. The book carries the reader on a journey through the lives of these two friends and the life choices that set them on different courses, one to the battlefield of Vietnam and the other in pursuit of a career in the field of law. When Buddy learns that Robert has been wounded in the war, his quest to locate his friend and come to his aid meets with a number of obstacles, but he is driven to keep the promise he made to his childhood friend. In his "must read" book, Sherman takes us back to an era when "a man's word was his bond" and shows the lengths one man will go to honor the love and commitment that defines the word "friend." C. Anthony Sherman, a native Texan, born in Crockett and raised in the Fifth Ward, is also known at home and abroad as Tony Sherman, the artist and sculptor. He taught himself to write while serving in the US Air Force. As a B-52 Bomber Crew Chief, he wrote for several military publications while flying around the world. He continued to write on a part-time basis as a hobby until 1988 when he studied creative writing at USL in Lafayette, Louisiana. His notoriety, however, comes from his artistic talent as he and his wife traveled the country selling his paintings and sculptures at conventions and other art shows. Writing became his creative passion since he met with the famed writer, Alex Haley, author of Roots. During the brief encounter they had, Mr. Haley told Tony to never stop writing. Tony was so impressed by the historical works of Mr. Haley, he committed to finish a fictional trilogy of the Sins of My Fathers and a body of story ideas, as a tribute to Mr. Haley's inspiration.
