LaWanda’s Journey and Other Stories is a compilation of twelve individual short stories. These inspiring tales cover such issues as grief, loss, aging, abuse, and redemption. In the book’s short story titled “LaWanda’s Journey,” LaWanda is a young woman learning to overcome her past. Juanita, in “Christmas Star,” is dealing with grief over her dad’s passing by trying to be positive as she learns to let go. Althea, in “Handful of Quiet,” is rebooting her life. While cycling to work, she finds herself coping with traffic. “Queen of Starting Over” tells of dealing with age discrimination on the job, and how one woman makes a Robert Frost decision about “The Road Not Taken.” Society’s indifference with the displaced elderly is revealed in “Shoulda Followed My Notion.” Daphne, in “Unspoken,” chooses to pursue the joyful peace that comes from a positively focused attitude. “Where Angels Brightly Go” features Sandy, who as a child endured verbal abuse from her mother. Now she refuses to let her past influence her future. An elderly couple and their perspectives on life take center stage in “Reject.” And “Uniquely Me” shows how positive affirmation from family members can help a child become a star. This wonderful collection of Christian stories considers the many journeys we travel in life. Says the author, “I wrote this collection of short stories to reveal how God’s love can shine even in the little everyday things. I hope the reader takes away from it how to walk with shoes of peace in difficult times, or as Mother Theresa once said, “to do little things with great love.”
