May I ask you a question? Do you believe that God likes you? Do you like yourself? Life is not easy, and we all need a friend and a break from how hard it can be. I am inviting you to spend 5 minutes a day and hear in a new way how much god genuinely likes you, just the way you are. You will hear that God is here to serve you, not you to serve God. You will hear how much God despises religion and loves relationships. What is special about this book is how it uncovers who Jesus really is from the Jesus many see in modern Christianity. You will hear from him directly without any religion surrounding them, without any guilt or shame or judgement. 'Hello Friend' is written in his voice. That's been done before, and that is not what makes it different. What makes it valuable is feeling and knowing how much God likes you individually, how much he has always liked you and how much he wants to help you thrive. You will hear how he saved a woman from being killed, who deserved the death penalty. You will hear how much he values innocence and cares for the poor and vulnerable and refugee. You will hear how the words sin and repentance have been grossly misunderstood and impregnated with shame and guilt which were never there in the original languages. You will learn about trust vs. control and about why bad things happen to good people. Most of all, you will learn that God respects you, your personal sovereignty and free will and that he will never ever, ever hurt you or shame you: that he likes you and he loves you.I'd like to thank you for your interest in this book. I initially wrote it for my daughter Sophie, who was going off to be a camp counselor. She needed a devotional to read to the 12 girls in her cabin one Summer in North Carolina. The title comes from one of my favorite memories of listening to Sophie, when she was 10 and her sister Audrey, who was 4 as they were going to bed. Sophie would tell Audrey, "I like you and I love you" and Audrey would repeat back "Like Chicken can Kabob you." And Sophie would repeat it back to Audrey and it would go on and on until I would remind them that it was time for bed. What started as something Sophie and Audrey said to each other as they went to bed each night as little girls, became something that 12 girls would hear each night as they went to bed in the cool Summer nights of North Carolina. And now it is something you can hear as you go to bed each night, or any other time of the day you choose to read it.
