EYES OF THE MOUNTAIN

Mention a book of poetry for sale and an immediate reaction is, "are you nuts", who in their right mind reads poetry: boring, aloof, exclusive, complicated, hard to understand because of obscure references that only the author seems to know; and they want me to pay for this? The poems contained in Eyes of the Mountain will shake your profile notions of what poetry is. The first six poems are short stories that will draw you into the thoughts and experiences of a young native American girl and her close relationship with her family and nature. Your heart will be stirred; she'll remain in your thoughts long after you shared her experiences. Her voice is young, innocent and yet mature, you'll think, "where can I meet someone like her?" The other poems in Eyes of the Mountain also tell short stories in a vernacular voice that speaks Zen; man, nature and the universe conversing, and why nature rebelled against man. There are tones of Edgar Allen Poe in some of the poems. You will laugh, contemplate and experience sweet melancholy. Eyes of the Mountain story poems are not boring, aloof, exclusive, complicated, and hard to understand. They are story poems you'll enjoy reading while listening to music, riding on a bus, anywhere and in a few months read again with coffee or wine. Also, what I have done with Eyes of the Mountain is provide, for most of the story poems, a narrative of my thinking, when I wrote these poems. I hope I'm giving you some of my insight as author to why I wrote these story poems, what was some background for writing them, why these story poems are dear to me, and why I read them often.
