UNJUSTIFIED MANIA is a novel about the attempted destruction of one police officer for revenge and political gain. At first the officer is targeted by one of his supervisors. Next, he is targeted by an elected official with aspirations of higher office. People are not generally swayed by the truth as much as they are swayed by their emotions. Those persons who learn to manipulate the emotions of large groups of people can use this power in horrific ways. This story aims to show how leaders are even manipulated by the so called will of the people. This will may not be the true will of the people but it is the loudest and most emotional.Although UNJUSTIFIED MANIA is set in the mid-1990s of Chicago there are many similarities to current events. The world of Facebook and Youtube were still in their infancy during this time. Smart phones were not prevalent. Events did not go viral on their own accord without context. Most people only have interaction with the police when they are being given a ticket. Sometimes they believe they are treated unjustly for what amounts to paying an extra tax. They have little sympathy for the police officers. Others have been for generations at odds with law enforcement. These parties are almost always guilty of the heinous crimes they are arrested for. The only defense they have is that the Police Officer processing them was mean and needs to be fired. They scream the loudest. They are very flamboyant and make for good news. The Media latches on to them and they are like the main attraction clown of the circus. Other media outlets copy cat their competition and so the story goes viral. It is a sad but screaming the lie loud and long enough makes many believe it is true. There are many true humanitarians amongst society. This is also the story of a small network of these humanitarians who realize that emotion does not take the place of the truth. They see the dignity of the person rather than the power of the mob.It has been my great horror to witness the worst of humans, the worst of politicians the worst of so-called civil servant leaders, however; it has also been my privilege to witness people who go above and beyond without benefit to themselves. These are the people that keep alive whatever faith I have left in humanity. In the Army we had a saying if you could cash in a hundred "Atta-boys!" to wipe one "Oh Shit!" life would be perfect. The police department tends to forget everything you have ever done for the community. The times you've gone into the heart of darkness for people you don't know. The criminals you have protected society from by catching and processing them. The crimes that you have prevented and the safety you have provided by your mere presence. All these are forgotten because there is a hue and cry for your blood and the powers over you want the cries for vengeance to go away. If it is necessary to sacrifice you and the safety of the quite citizen to do so they will.If I dedicate UNJUSTIFIED MANIA to anyone it is to all those everyday people who fight against the demons who walk the world seeking the ruin of souls.
