The story of a family on a collision course with destiny. Following the death of her parents, Sophie goes into foster care. She grows up in a small town out West. When her adopted family dies, she goes to Africa to work for the United Nations, in a cholera treatment facility in the Ténéré Dessert, a no man's land southwest of the Tibesti Mountains. She adopts a beautiful girl-child called Nay-Nee-yah and eventually returns to the United States to finish her education and obtain a medical degree. What happens to both women is the stuff legends are made of. Alessandro goes into foster care, first by way of Legal Aid, then through an institution where he is repeatedly beaten and raped. He becomes a killer of men and a convert to ISIS. He learns Sharia law and the ways of Jihad. In time he sours on the movement and returns to the United states by way of the gauntlet, through Turkey and France. Mathew comes out of foster care in a good home and with a loving family. He graduates with honors from West Point. With the rise Of ISIS, he goes to Iraq as a commissioned officer and is awarded the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry. He sustains multiple injuries, including loss of memory. When his tour of duty ends, he is seconded to the United Nations to assist in the formation of a rapid response force to protect UN assets in the field. In Africa, he meets and interacts romantically with Sophie, without knowing that she is his sister. The mainly eventually reunites and the consequences are dramatic and unintended.
