Battle of the Extremophiles

By the year 2035, billions upon billions of tons of discarded plastics, from water bottles to detergent jugs, from snack packs to baggies, had found their way into our oceans. Over time, UV photodegradation released the toxic chemicals used in the manufacture of plastics, transforming our oceans into highly toxic environments. In the Pacific it was known as The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, and had grown to six times the size of Alaska. Most marine species had perished. A few extremophiles adapted. Someone had to warn the world of the dystopian consequences.
