Defy one's belief that the impossible can never be possible. SjkHaving experienced layers of trauma imprinted within my cells, I hold deep value and appreciation in my healing journey. I am often asked how I was able to sustain my spirit through California's life without parole Sentence plus four years imposed upon me as a child of sex trafficking. What comes to mind is the book by Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning. Frankl was an Austrian psychiatrist who survived his imprisonment in the Auschwitz concentration camp during WWII. I read his book several times while incarcerated; it cultivated a sense of drive and determination within my spirit, as did the readings, poetry more so, by the elegant storyteller Maya Angelou. Realizing and embracing the motivational drive in this discovery, one has a choice to choose to live free from within. Having courageous, fluid thinking shifted my reality. Reflective reality released me from the fear of the unknown. Acceptance motivated an innate desire to give back and build community, a community within confinements so infused with dehumanizing day to day trauma. Thus, I began to share my insights with the other women and actively listen, share, and hold space with them, intentional in non-judgment. A present environment does not have to define the present moment is freeing. For many years, inspiring and being inspired by the voices and intentions of the beautiful souls I met, expressing and reflecting a human kindness approach to social change within imprisonment as well as my community outside the bondage, laid a foundation to begin to heal. Nineteen Poems & Seven 7 Quotes express the very personal journey of healing I have taken for myself. I could not be who I am today had I not been raised by the ladies caged in pain and grace. May you be inspired, moved, be made uncomfortable, enraged, connected and ever-present. May intentions to be a part of a healing change promote your over-all being to be better, listen deeply and appreciate all. What a gift to share with you. In deep gratitude.simply sara
