Does your child show an interest in learning cursive writing? In this workbook, you will find 50 pages of letter formations, warm ups and exercise prompts for upper and lower case cursive writing, letter connections and small words - plus lots of extra pages for practicing. These pages are appropriate for beginner level handwriting and are meant to serve as an introduction to cursive letter foundations. Some of my TOP REASONS I believe children should still be taught cursive writing: 1. Develops Motor Skills: Cursive writing involves using hand muscles in a different way. Taught around 7 or 8 years old, these skills can be very beneficial in furthering motor skill development.2. Reinforces Learning: Research suggests that printing letters and writing in cursive activate different parts of the brain. Writing in longhand generally helps students retain more information and generate more ideas. By learning cursive in addition to printing, students get another opportunity to fully comprehend the alphabet. Learning cursive gives students a clearer understanding of how letters are formed, which will improve their print writing as well.3. Working with Legal Documents: While this may not be a concern at this age, as children grow into young adults there will be circumstances that require a signature. Cursive signatures are used for signing cheques, tenancy application, bank accounts, etc. They should be confident when presented with these situations in being able to properly write their signature in cursive writing.4. Connect to the Past: Historical documents are written in cursive. Some are readily available online in print form, but not all of them are. Older generations often still write in cursive. Kids often rely on their parents to translate letters and cards from Grandparents because they simply cannot read cursive writing. I love this especially as we save cards written by our grandparents and how nice will it be that the kids can someday dig those cards out and read them properly.
