Blindness is a condition of the body that becomes less burdensome as one's surroundings become more understood and a sense of direction is established. In fact, the fear of the unknown can vanish from daily life when it is no longer the center of mental identity. Without acquiring the knowledge of what actually exists around us, the fear of what is unknown will tend to overpower our ability to find rest. Awareness of what might exist beyond our personal borders helps to diminish that fear and causes us to remain confident in our current positions. We exist in a physical state of flesh surrounded by sound, light, and structures. We gain experiences and memories every day that help us to cope with what we see unfolding from moment to moment. Those of us who can see with our physical eyes are able to detect physical threats such as moving cars or uneven foundations in our paths with plenty of time to avoid encountering them, under the condition that we remain observant. If we remain observant, we might see what we need to avoid, as well as what we might need to embrace. What I want to shed light on in this book, however, is not our ability to observe that which exists in the physical realm, but something even more valuable to our lives. My objective is to provide biblical understanding of the importance of spiritual awareness. It is to explain the reality of the spiritual realm that exists with us, that we are unable to see physically, but that we must inevitably encounter on a daily basis, moment by moment.
