Janie Grace recounts her first day at a brand-new school (and with brand-new glass too). Once she gets to school, she loses part of her name tag (her favorite part- 'Grace'), and the whole day kind of spirals out of control from there. Throughout the course of the day, she's called all sorts of things (both good and bad), and as she believes them, her mind starts to play tricks on her. In her imagination, she's just putting on these "name tags", owning these "labels"... and actually becoming these things. At the end of the day, she's so frustrated and overwhelmed by the weight of all the things she's been called, that she sort of forgets who she really is inside. Until... her father gently and lovingly reminds her of who she really is. He tells her that only she has the power to choose which labels to wear.
