This was necessary to confront and educate people to the widespread problem so that it can be eradicated and criminalized more consistently. It is a problem that is easier to ignore, or call it something it's not, than to tackle it. The first step in prevention of a prevalent and insidious crime that has been right under our noses, yet consistently, explained away as something that it is NOT. For too long it has been a subversive power struggle that is really an ignored crime that we tolerate and excuse as "Entertainment" or a "personal choice" by a victim. Educating us and encouraging us to talk about it and view this sensitive topic; that most Americans wish to think of as someone else's problem; ?occurring somewhere else,?.. when it's right in our own backyard. I believe the fictionalization of this story helps to call the reader to arms and action. This work as a fictional story allows the reader an easier process to confront and consider the epic proportions of this issue in a more palatable way.. .thereby allowing the reader to open their mind and think broader of this issue as the crime it is and how prevalent it lives in every City. To know that women and men are victims of intimidation, subordination, dominance or need for income, all points to the power struggle associated with this crime? it is violence for sex, control, and power by using sex.
