Synopsis - Free Thinkers by Richard McStayFreethinkers is a 74,200 word Futuristic Adventure with dystopian view of what could happen in America given current trends in science and politics. John Buchan snatches Susan Ryan from a line of captives being taken to a re-education camp run by Krotch Industries. He didn't pick her, because she was beautiful and wearing a nurse's uniform. He picked her by size, but she was more than he could have hoped for.He swore he wouldn't allow himself to get close to her. He wanted to avoid the pain of seeing another he loved gunned down by government contractors. She believed her fiancé was dead or implanted, so she didn't feel guilty falling for John. They were thrown together by fate, only to be separated when Richard shows up. He is not the man she remembered.Pursued by a psycho sniper John is desperate to save some of his group and decides to split up rather than see them all killed off. He loses another close to him and stumbles onto Susan who has been drugged and shot. He surrenders rather than see her further harmed, knowing she will be forced to kill him. Love is stronger than the hypnotic drug and she disobeys orders; shooting her captives instead.John finds himself stuck with a collection of people Richard had under the Hypno drug, grieving over a lost friend and Susan needing medical attention. In moving the large group toward the safety of UN lines, he finds out how to undermine the orders given to controlled people.Remnants of America's armed forces need their expertise in helping free controlled people and press John and Susan into service. Discovering the Chancellor's evil plan puts them both in front of Martin's gun a second time. He'd survived her bullet. Martin died happy, believing the couple had been spared for a reason and he had redeemed himself by refusing to kill them when ordered to.With information gained by their team's efforts, the Krotch brothers plan was stopped and they were captured. The couple is happy as they fly away watching a celebration taking place. It was a celebration of the successful beginning of restoring their country.
