It started in 1965 with albums that quickly developed 'classic' status and, despite the passing of subsequent decades, have lost none of their enduring charm. Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited and Rubber Soul by the Beatles did much to ensure that albums would become more important than the hitherto champion of music, the 45. 50 years later albums continue to maintain a special affection with music lovers across the globe. We all love them. There may be disagreements regarding what constitutes greatness and that's part of the fun. That's also the main purpose behind writing this book. The aim, quite simply, is to share a passionate love for the 'album' in its many guises from vinyl, cassette, CD and through to the recent developments of MP3 and online streaming. The intention of the pages you are about to read is not to patronise, not to lecture, but to spotlight and discuss in an unpretentious manner the key classics that have brought a sense of tremendous satisfaction to me... and, I hope, will do the same for those unfamiliar with the albums mentioned.
