What is God? Does God exist? How can I find God? These questions, and many more, are answered in this book. Yes, really answered. I will not be beating around the bush but answer these questions directly and concretely. And I will not base my answers on revelation, scripture, or religious faith, but only on the meaning of the word 'God'. That is, that God is supernatural. This is the most common notion of God. It is non-sectarian, not based on religion or denomination, but shared by theist and atheists alike. It is also one of the most profound notions of God. I will first argue that God is supernatural and then explain what it means for God to be supernatural. The results are amazing! That God is supernatural means, among other things, that there cannot be more than one God, and that God exists. Also, all of the typical attributes of God follow from the fact that God is supernatural: If God is supernatural, of course God appears to have all of these supernatural attributes. The attributes turn out to be ways or attempts to say that God is supernatural. Another surprising result, if in hindsight perhaps obvious, is that God is identical with some notions we are most familiar with. These results are real eye-openers! The investigation into what it means for God to be supernatural, also reveals the beauty of a supernatural God: That only a supernatural God is truly infinite, supreme, greater-than-the-greatest. That only a supernatural God is truly perfect, i.e., complete and flawless. And that if we try to turn God into something more than just supernatural, we actually turn God into something less, the worship of which is idolatry. In short, it reveals that only a truly supernatural God is truly God. This is not your typical account of God because it claims that God is supernatural yet proceeds by natural means (i.e., means that are in accordance with contemporary methods and standards of rationality of the natural sciences) as opposed to supernatural means (e.g., divine revelation). Thus, it bridges the apparent gap between natural and supernatural approaches to God. If the 'ultimate' of non-theistic religions also refers to what is supernatural, this may well be a universally acceptable account of God / the ultimate. Last not least, let me put the adherents of the doctrine of divine simplicity at ease by noting that the account of God as supernatural is fully compatible with the doctrine of divine simplicity (provided God's simplicity is considered to be absolute). But the account of God as supernatural has a number of important advantages over the doctrine of divine simplicity. Thus, I believe that the account of God as supernatural would be a worthy successor to the doctrine of divine simplicity. I cannot but hope that working with this account of God may help you to attain salvation, divine union, enlightenment, liberation, wisdom, or whatever you call that which sets you free. Free from sin and the consequences of sin, free from separation, free from craving and ignorance and the pain it causes, free from the cycle of birth and death and its suffering, or, to put it in somewhat plainer terms, free from the stress that comes from being deceived by appearances.
