Interview with the authorQ: How do you feel now that the fantasy series is complete? A: First of all, relieved that I got here: ). At times, it was quite exhausting to come up with new ideas or work over a passage again and again until it is better. However, right after the relief comes the sadness that it's over. I've had so much fun while creating this world and figuring out conversations and emotions between the characters. It will be weird not to think about them anymore every day. Luckily, they are in the books and I could read them if I start missing them too much: )Q: What did you learn on this writing journey? A: I think I got better with creating emotions. At least I had way fewer comments from my editor about "not showing" emotions in HoP3 than I did in the other novels. I also took the magic up a notch. What I love best about fantasy books is when they make you feel wowed because you can't believe what you just read and wished this could happen to you as well. So, the amount of magic grew exponentially throughout the series.Q: Where did you get your inspiration? A: For the emotions, I analyzed The Hunger Games. That book gives me goosebumps on every page, and I would love to be able to do the same and create emotions in my readers. I highlighted the phrases in different colors and then put them into different emotional categories. I tried to find a pattern which I then could use for my story. I'm curious to hear what my readers think when they read HoP3. Plus, for the magic of course Harry Potter is a huge inspiration. I have butterflies in my stomach when I think about the world which has been created there. I didn't want to copy anything as Heart of Power should be a unique story, but I still hope some scenes will completely enchant the reader.Q: Can we expect more books from you? A: Writing still is an urge which I can't suppress. I've already a mental list of all the travel guides I still want to write. Next up are Laos and the Philippines. Also, I will quit my teaching job next summer to go traveling South America. Then, even more travel guides will emerge from that: ) Plus, the idea for Heart of Power started on a trip about five years ago. Traveling is inspiring and perhaps I will soon have ideas for a new fantasy novel. I really liked writing the epilogue of HoP3 as it's so rich with magic and perhaps I could write an epic fantasy story instead of an urban fantasy which only includes some magical elements.
