Creative Hearts is a caring, insightful, and powerful collection of poems by two women who loved each other and their families. When I decided to put together a collection of my own poetry, I felt that it would be appropriate to combine my work with my mother's. After all, it was she who inspired me to write. What is presented here is a combined collection of our work. I hope you will enjoy reading these works as much as I enjoyed reviewing, sorting, and collecting them. Imagine if you had in your possession the writings of a mother and daughter from a long past generation in your family, perhaps going back to the 1800s or even 1700s. Or if not writings, their quilts or paintings-whatever their creative pursuits might have been. Wouldn't you feel that you owned possessions to be prized? Though each woman had different experiences, they were also similar-much as a painter has differing strokes for two portraits, yet when looking at the paintings later, side by side, they also have similarities in face and composition. Here are two poems from the book, daughter and mother... SONNET OF MYSELF I am a poem of fourteen lines of verse who needs to have a rhythm to my life. I prattle forth and sometimes may seem terse. To me my sense of order seems just fine. Precise and balanced well from stem to stern I sail along with confidence and glee. I know just where I'm going at each turn and grateful, balanced, happy to be me. I know a life of structure's not for some. What kind of world would that be after all, with every single person being one like dancers all in rhythm at a ball. However, just for me the rules are fine. No matter if I do live out of time. [PJT] MY QUIET TIME One hour a day I rest my mind from the daily cares around. And let my thoughts go back in time where happiness is found. Sometimes I wonder back in time where childhood was gay, To the old white house on the corner lot where I used to run and play. I see my friends of yesteryear with faces all aglow And listen as they call my name, on the old familiar road. These memories are so fresh and real for me to keep and share With anyone who passes by who has no one to care. [JJB] From Pat's dedication...
