Namaste." --- While driving down the road after a visit to Big Bend National Park, Kathy Rogers asked Leatherwood the question that led to the title of this book. "If you could give your great-grandchildren just one piece of advice, what would it be?" He pondered the answer to that question for weeks. Kathryn Rogers was a friend, a faithful travel companion for some time, and who he called the Jane Goodall of the bird world. Kathy and her staff rescued, rehabbed, released, or gave permanent homes to over 5,000 birds every year for well over thirty years. No bird, be it sparrow or eagle, was ever turned away. Kathryn was a saver of souls, both human and avian. She offered all who came a key to the secret garden. Kathy Rogers died unexpectedly in April of 2023, leaving her legacy, Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in the capable hands of her amazing staff. Matthew Leatherwood was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. He earned a BSBA with an emphasis in Behavioral Science from the University of Nebraska, before moving to Texas in the 1980s. He returned to Nebraska after serving 23 years with the Dallas Fire Department. He spends his time with his lovely wife, Gina, children, grandchildren, and his amazing Cornhusker family. He is an avid photographer and loves to travel.
