This is a translation of two illustrated police manuals from 1941, showing how to stop, search and arrest suspicious persons as well as how to defend against sudden attacks. The manuals are from Osaka and Yokohamatwo of the largest cities in Japan. They also contain an illustrated guide to Hojo, rope binding techniques, which were used instead of metal handcuffs. The two books are: Yokohama Guide: ??????? How to Question Suspicious Persons and Arrest Them With Additional Material: How to Escort Suspects, How to Guard Prisoners in Jail and Hojo Police Rope. Osaka Guide: ????? How to Arrest Additional Material: Outline of Hojo Jutsu, Binding With Rope Techniques Both books were stamped Not to be shared outside the police department and were probably used in conjunction with training seminars.
