The story of Charlotte Walker begins as that of an ordinary teenager living an ordinary life in California, nothing further from her mind than the history and ghosts of a far distant country. That is until a phone call from her father's doctor brings her world crashing down around her. Soon bankrupted by hospital bills, Charlotte's mother struggles to holds her family together until a mysterious letter from far away Scotland arrives with the news that the family has been left a house by a distant relative, the bequest dependent upon their moving into the house to stay. In a whirlwind of less than a month, Charlotte finds herself living in a mysterious old stone manor in the wild Highlands of Scotland, unsure of anything except that the remnants of a dark and desperate history still live within its walls. Mysterious visions, lingering echoes, and a phantom Highlander's desperate plea for help bring Charlotte face to face with the ghost of a girl her own age, who died over three hundred years ago, betrayed and murdered by the very people her family had trusted. Through a series of frightening events, mysterious circles of stone lead the way to rescue, remembrance and redemption, as in the end Charlotte learns that even in the face of betrayal, the one thing stronger than life or even death, is love.
