Bathed in sweat, David's eyes peeled open to the darkness engulfing the room. The loud thumping of his heart crowded his senses. "Sshhh," he demanded, muffling the irritating beat with the cross of his hands over his chest. His gaze slanted upwards, following the angle of the beams supporting the cabin's high ceiling. A million stars poured in through the tiny skylight near the roof's apex. Backtracking, his eyes fell down the cabin's barren wall, reminding that he was alone.David knew Ariel was close, he could feel her presence. Her essence was in the wood the cabin was built from, the air he breathed, and definitely the empty spot in the bed beside him. He had blindly followed Ariel up the mountain like a dog following a bitch in heat, and now he could not turn back even if he wanted to. Not only did had the road been narrow, the dangerously high cliffs were always sniffing at the tires on his car. Taking a deep breath, David recalled the darkness suddenly engulfing ed him, and with no road signs pointing north, east, south or west, anc certainly none to the highway, simply put, he was a lost puppy. The stars winking at him from the other side of the skylight told him that it was night, probably around midnight. But that was just a wild ass guess. Having lost track of time and place, with no idea how long he had been in her lair, nor when his demonic mistress might allow him to leave, he was at Ariel's mercy.
