John Falk was raised by his father and although the boy had a dream of becoming an emergency medical technician, he was unable to finance the education required. He joined the U.S. Army and after advanced medical training he was sent as a combat medic to Afghanistan. On one of his patrols, his convoy was attacked killing several and wounded others. While severly injured, John went to work on his fallen comrades. Once he had them stabilized, with his patrol still under fire, John took over the turret gun in the lead vehicle and led the attack that killed and drove off the enemy. For his efforts he was nominated for the Medal of Honor. He received word of this while recovering in the Walter Reed Hospital. With his father pushing his wheelchair, John reluctantly received the Medal at the White House. It took years for him to recover both physically and emotionally. He found he was unable to work as an EMT and ended up in the Pacific Northwest eventually starting a real estate and construction company. Thinking the war was far behind him, he found he was in another war against drug pushers who preyed on homeless veterans. Again John led the attack, this time in the war within.
