From the moment of original sin, God unveiled a plan of redemption. Deep inside that plan was a covenant, and inside the covenant's DNA was God's love and awe-inspiring grace. This divine love for mankind is beautifully revealed in John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." And His amazing grace becomes vividly apparent in Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." After Adam fell into sin, God resolved to restore their broken fellowship by establishing an unbreakable, everlasting blood covenant. In this Covenant of Redemption, God the Father represented all righteousness, while the pre-incarnate Son of God (Jesus) represented all sin. Astonishingly, the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, and at Jesus' death on the cross, God the Father accepted Jesus' shed blood for the forgiveness of all repentant sin. This remarkable covenant revealed the awesome work of the Trinity and is the cornerstone of all salvation. In the Old Testament story of Jonah, God sent a huge sea creature to rescue him from the raging sea. And in the New Testament, God sent his Son to rescue all of mankind from sin. When speaking of his own death and resurrection, Jesus made reference to Jonah's miraculous rescue. Matthew 12:40 reads, "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Jesus' death and resurrection was God's plan of redemption, rescuing mankind from downing in his own sea of sin. Throughout the Bible, covenant making and covenant keeping are of prodigious importance. They were created for one reason; to bring two entities into an unbreakable single union. Because the Bible was written by men living in the Middle East, a Middle Eastern perspective has been included. Co-author Mike Ahmed was born Mohammad Ahmed and raised in a Muslim household in Egypt. His covenant insights and cultural views are readily evident in this narrative. Some of his perspectives may seem foreign and possibly disturbing to the reader. Nevertheless, in order to grasp the totality of covenant making and covenant keeping, his viewpoints are essential. For an in-depth look into Mike Ahmed's spiritual life, an abridged autobiography titled "God in My Life" has been included.
