Beware the Neurocowboy: A True-ish Story of Sales and Entrepreneurship

We are at risk. There's so much neurobabble in the media these days, but you have been warned! It happened to me, and it could happen to you. I entered an entrepreneurship competition and my idea was stolen by a wannabe neuroexpert... a neurocowboy! The word 'cowboy' refers to a reckless, irresponsible person who undertakes a sensitive or dangerous task. Sometimes they are underqualified to perform it. Neurocowboys, specífically, don't have any respect for the complexity of the brain, nor for the many fields that comprise neuroscience. They get access to a little bit of information, like a few courses or books under their wing, and they start teaching about the brain and business, presenting themselves as experts right away. Luckily for me, I had guidance from a qualified and kind-hearted expert in neuroscience, with a great sense of humor and love for movie trivia and references. In this 40-page short story, I share with you how I dealt with having my idea stolen, so you know what to do in case you ever find yourself in a similar situation.
