Birds the colours and shapes of leaves sit amongst the summer foliage but never sing. But now and again, one finally finds its voice. Bob Toynton was born in east Fife. By the time he started school, the family had moved village twice, and so he would always be an incomer. Feeling or being made to feel "other" is the origin of his poetry, written as observation, self-exploration and celebration. The poems here tackle much of life from birth, to the death of loved ones; from loss to re-found happiness and marriage; from journeys through memory to journeys to foreign parts. The topics are many and varied. After an academic career in England in science and education, Bob returned to settle on the west coast of Scotland in 2015. This is the first published collection of Bob's poetry, though many of the pieces here have been presented in person at events in and around Oban.
