Master's Thesis from the year 2022 in the subject Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict, Security, grade: 3.78, Ethiopian Civil Service University, language: English, abstract: This study was focused on the role of private security companies in enhancing community security in the case of Yeka Sub city, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The study was employed mixed research design that is both quantitative and qualitative and data was collected through the primary and secondary data sources. To analyze and show data clearly, thematic and descriptive data analysis methods were used and SPSS and excel software's were also used as tools of analysis in this study. Results were shown quantitatively and qualitatively and presented via the description, tables, and graphs. This study found that the private security has a vital role in enhancing community security through preventing, controlling, and eliminating crime conducive environments. With regard to partnerships of private security with public police, the result shows that they have a great coordination in sharing information's, capacity building, and assisting each other while patrolling. However, their partnerships were challenged by lack of security skills, poor security equipment's, low salaries, misunderstandings, illegitimate responsibilities, and absence of standard and national private security training manuals. The findings reveal that appropriate security strategies are necessary to increase the contribution and make legalize their responsibilities of private security in providing security services to the community around their worksite.
