This book contains a summary of how African American television sitcoms have negatively portrayed African Americans. This book looks at different television sitcoms from the 1970's through current day and discusses the varying stereotypes which have passed through society from decade to decade. By using different television sitcoms and theories from previous studies, the hypothesis in this research shows the stereotypes running on television sitcoms have been used to portray the African American community negatively. While analyzing eleven African American sitcoms running from 1970 through present day, the stereotypes that were placed into society will be shown by using the content analysis of the shows in the past years. Research will show the stereotypes are not viewed by only African Americans, but the rest of society as well, this being why the stereotypical nature can no longer exist.
