I spent my time obsessing about our relationship and committing myself to a version I thought he was. You see, because that's what we humans do, we fall for fractions of people and expect that fraction to fill up a hole, to fill a void. I have used dating as an escape. Amanda paints a picture of a person who had to walk the journey of a Christian and still handle relationships, loss, and growing up in the "real world". having to learn to be honest with herself and shedding off the daily pretense that religion puts on us. This gives the reader a comforting sense that the writer is understanding and had to learn to heal, unlearn traits and find her way back to herself after life "showed her flames".
