As a Canadian, I like many of my fellow native citizens, could never truly understand the pain and suffering endured by those whose lives are destroyed by endless war, religious and ethnic discrimination, genocide, and personal disruption and displacement. They leave their homeland, often their family, and their dreams to escape the injustice and pain, in the hope of finding a new life free of the atrocities and suffering. This book has given me a new insight into the destiny of any displaced person. It is a story definitely worth reading. The author takes us through years of personal suffering and mistreatment. With the help of his enduring faith and his friends, he finally attains his goal of a new home in a free country for himself and his family. We often hear discussions about whether Canada should be allowing so many refugees to enter our country and form our own opinions based on misinformation. Those discussions and opinions never consider the individuals and families suffering in war-torn countries - but then we simply do not know or see their circumstances. This story opens our eyes to a small preview of the life of a refugee. It is not dramatic fiction, but rather a real person experiencing a real life. Many displaced persons are not as fortunate as the writer, and others may have the resources needed to accomplish freedom more quickly. Regardless of the horrible situation and extreme sufferings are the same. Only their courage and hope can carry them long enough to reach their goal.I am a professional editor. The author asked if I could help him finish his book so it could be published. He wrote it in his native language, and had it translated to English, but was concerned as to whether it would be acceptable to English readers. I reviewed the initial pages and realized it needed to be revised to reflect English wording and edited.I accepted this work having no idea of the poignancy of this novel. The author has given his readers an in-depth look at his life and the type of courage and determination required to reach his goal. It is worth the read...Christine Hayton - January 7, 2024
