Gotta Remember! Grandma Forgets

Why is grandma acting so weird? How come grandpa doesn't know me anymore? Did grandma get lost? Why is grandpa so angry? It's so difficult watching that family member who was once sharp, energetic, and wise become a stranger--distant and forgetful. It's even more difficult trying to explain what's going on to a child when you can't fully wrap your own mind around it. Alzheimer's and dementia can be so hard on a family. It is hard on the adults and has to be confusing and stressful for a child. This children's book can open up dialogue about these conditions and the transition that family members, especially grandparents, may go through. In many situations, kids become a part of the caregiving process and that can cause great anxiety if they are not prepared for what's to come. As a counselor, as well as someone who has experienced this with my mom and other family members, I encourage you to prepare your kids for some of the alarming changes that their loved-ones might experience. I hope this book can be used as a simplified resource for children, families, or counselors to get kids through the tough times ahead.
