Unpublished during his lifetime, Novalis' Universal Jottings is a collection of notes towards a Romantic encyclopedia written over six months in 1798-1799. They exhibit exceedingly and brilliant thinking - genuinely interdisciplinary, highly spiritual, and exceedingly poetic. This translation of excerpts from his notebooks seeks to convey a text in the course of being generated, with all the deletions and emendations preserved. There are also extensive glossaries and descriptive list of the persons he mentions.
