Hurtin' Hoopties: Real People. Real Problems. Real God.

We're all just hoopties. What's a hooptie? The term, coined to describe an old or dilapidated car, puts a visual on all of us who make mistakes with regularity. Mess up the same life areas repeatedly. Forget lessons learned and sermons preached. Fall short on the daily. You may not like to hear this, but--this is you. Take heart: it's me too! Even though we're all just ordinary people, we were created by an extraordinary God who loves us beyond comprehension. And we all have stories He writes in our lives as we walk out our ordinary faults and failings on this fallen planet in community with each other and relationship with Him. We are often face to face with people who need the wisdom we've gained from what we've been through, and vice versa. Telling our stories helps others who are still in the midst of theirs. My hope is that if you have not yet begun a relationship with Jesus, one or more of the stories told by my friends will resonate in your life experiences and encourage you to do so. If you are already walking in a relationship with Jesus, you know that doing so doesn't automatically disqualify you from hurts, mess-ups, or desperate situations. In any case, I hope you find great strength and fresh wonder on these pages so that you can take a new grip with tired hands and strengthen your weak knees (Hebrews 12:12).
