Maratha Paintings

The tradition of Maratha painting was indeed rich. Famous Maratha Chitaris (painters) as Shivram, Sadashiv, Mankoji, Damu, Gangaram (Tambat) and Mahadu adored the Maratha school of painting. The paintings inherit their compositional formula from many of the characteristics of later medieval paintings derived from the sculptural-artistic traditions of Ajanta and Ellora. Prominent among the patrons of the Maratha art were Chhatrapati Shahu, Peshwa Madhavrao, Raghoba, and Nana Phadnavis.The book is result of authors extensive research work while serving at the history museum of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (now Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar). This book includes 15 illustrations with descriptions of the paintings of Maratha rulers, Chhatrapatis, Peshwas, royal processions, battle scenes, religious themes (lord Krishna and Ganesha) and ragas-raginis.
