We measure so many things (and people) in public education. This book explores the many ways we place value on the two critical pieces of the puzzle: students and teachers. In public education, we have focused on counting the wrong things. We build shrines dedicated to the testing gods, we spend billions of dollars on test prep and remediation materials and billions more on the actual tests, we start preparing kids months before taking these tests while we abandon important curriculum, and we punish students and teachers for not performing up to standard. This book asks the questions Why we do what we do and What If we tried something different?
