What seventeen year-old doesn't dream of acquiring a ship and sailing the high seas, seeking adventure, and dodging pirates at every turn? Me. That's who. I was just an orphan girl from a tiny port town that isn't even on most maps, but now I'm the captain of an untrained crew on a ship held together by little more than prayers and luck. Add in a past dogging my steps and the looming threat of an epic war? What am I doing out here again? Guess it's time for me to step up. I just wish I knew what I was stepping into. The Pirate Horde is a wild, whimsical, and wordy coming of age tale full of adventure, high seas shenanigans, witty repartee, and one very confused and frustrated protagonist who's probably too smart(mouthed) for her own good. It touches on several potentially triggering topics including violence, mental and physical abuse, slavery, piracy, racism, classism, sexism, ageism, nationalism, anxiety, alcohol use, black market deals, historical inaccuracies, inconsistent linguistic structures, teenagers with far too much independence, and at least one girl who has no idea what she's doing with her life. If any of these things will cause you undue stress to read, it might be best to sit this one out. Otherwise, enjoy!
